Thornensians Rugby Club Golf Society Raises £979 for Firefly Cancer Awareness at Annual Charity Golf Day
The Thornensians Rugby Club Golf Society proudly held their Annual Charity Golf Day at Thorne Golf Club, bringing together local sports enthusiasts and supporters for a day of competition and community spirit — all in the name of a worthy cause.
This year's event, held under clear summer skies, proved to be a resounding success, raising an impressive £979 for Firefly Cancer Awareness, the rugby clubs chosen charity. Firefly provides vital support and transport services to cancer patients in the Doncaster area, ensuring they can access treatment without added stress or financial burden.
The day saw dozens of golfers take to the fairways in a friendly but competitive atmosphere, with prizes awarded for nearest the pin, longest drive, and overall team performance. The individual performance honours went to Antony Bull, Golf Society Captain for 2025, with a very impressive 38 points! Off the course, an auction added to the fundraising efforts, with generous contributions from local businesses and members of the rugby and golfing community.
Golf Society Captain, Antony Bull, expressed his gratitude:
“We’re incredibly proud of the support we’ve received from both players and sponsors. Raising £979 for Firefly is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the generosity and community spirit of everyone involved.”
The Thornensians Rugby Club Golf Society looks forward to building on this success with future events, continuing their tradition of sport and service for the local community.
